The title says it all. The school year has come and gone for many. While some of the spotlight belongs to those who worked hard to obtained honors, scholarships, and other accolades, it is time to turn it towards those who get little to not recognition.
As a student, I was never a straight A student. I was average student, yet I did enough to get by. I was more towards the arts than I was to that of science and mathematics for most of my pursuit of knowledge.
From second grade to mainly fifth grade, I was hanging around the Cs as an overall average. I did summer school once in 2000 when my parents’ marriage was ready to call it quit. I did bring home poor marks, mainly in math and science. I’ll be honest I never opened a book to study much when I came home from school. I always wondered what was the point. I told my parents often to not worry.
Yet, here I am, writing to those who could use a pick me up. Do know that your efforts will go unnoticed. I’m proud of you.
If you got through the school year with a C, great job. If you went from an F to a C or better, congratulations. You did it. You persevered.
St. Philip Neri reminds us to pray for the “gift of perseverance”. He tells us that cultivating perseverance is important in our prayer life and even life in general. Without faith, one will never learn the virtue of perseverance.
In Tulsa King, Sylvester Stallone’s character had a great line when conversing with daughter. He tells her, “Just show up anyway.”
Always be at class, go to school, answer questions or ask. These things will add up.
Remember that we are all not measured by a GPA. Instead, we are measured by how faithful we are. God calls us to be faithful in him, not the honor roll.
Never give up. Celebrate your comeback in getting a good grade to move on to the next grade level or to graduate.
Again, you did it.
