ADVENT CHALLENGE: BE MORE GIVING THAN RECEIVING
America celebrated its 249th birthday yesterday. It was filled with Barbecues, parades, fireworks, and in some major cities live concert events.
Some may remember what it was like to celebrate the bicentennial birthday of America. Next year, we will be closer to the tricentennial than we will be to the last biggest birthday.
Catholics have had a major role in helping in the establishment in our country. Charles Carroll was the only Catholic to sign the Declaration of Independence. As time went on, Daniel Carroll and Thomas Fitzsimons supported the US Constitution when ratified in 1787.
Thankfully, we can start now to ensure that the 250 years acknowledge the contributions of Catholics.
Catholic for Catholics has launched a website to begin the yearlong preparations for America’s 250th birthday.
“As Catholics, we ought to be so proud of our role and contributions throughout the past 250 years. We, the Catholic People, were here from the beginning. In fact, we were here well before the beginning…” The website states.
“Our fearless Catholic priests arrived full of zeal to preach Christ to the New World. The blood of the martyr, Fr. Juan de Padilla, killed in 1542 in Kansas, made hallow the ground of this land well over 200 years before the start of the Revolution.”
Some plans include a gala in the spring of 2026.
For now, Catholics can pray, educate, and advocate for our faith and its history in America. Many U.S. cities have Catholic origins, and they alone must never be taken for granted.
