That time I caught on fire in church
Before we get started, go ahead and read my previous article; God tells Job's friend how it is, check out my latest on Locals (yes, this is important to me); The Cherokee Nation's manufactured controversy, and, as always, if you want to help me out; Help with medical bills
I've been going through the Bible with my nephew, and we just finished the Book of Job. And while the order of the books in The Bible can (indeed, even how books are counted can vary), we're onto the Psalms. So, What I did was read a little bit ahead on it, and read Psalm 1 on Saturday afternoon.
So, what I am going to do is quote the entire thing (it's not very long),
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore, the wicked will not stand in the judgment , nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” (Psalm 1:1-6).
There are a couple of places I want to focus on in particular, 4-6, (I'm not typing that again).
So, y'all may recall that some of my family is Jewish (Confession is biblical )
And the whole practice of praying for the dead comes from Judaism;Jewish Funeral Prayers & Quotes. But, I find Proverbs 10:7 especially poignant, as I have learned that Eastern Christians will say “let his/her memory be eternal”, but, you'll also notice the part about the name of the wicked will rot.
Suffice it to say, there are many Jews that have a very high opinion of those that stood up to evil, but, would rather forget the name of a certain Austrian born dictator.
They WANT that name to rot. I mean, after all, what you want to be reminded of the evil done to you and your people?
Think about it this way, humans tend to remember hurt more than we remember good.
Humans, as a species, are weird, we're extremely emotional, and can be very confusing (this is where I remind you that I'm autistic).
In all that he does, he prospers.” (Psalm 1:1-3)
