All Life is Terminal; therefore, why do so many Fear Death that Leads to Eternity?
The Gravity of Life and Death
Eileen Renders
We spend a large portion of our lives working toward a deep, meaningful relationship with God, our creator. At the same time, we are working, enjoying our families, seeking a partner in life, children, and a home. The world can be a busy place, and society is continually evolving. Technology is a relentless pursuit for many. We are presented with tragedies and difficult issues to handle, and the support of our family is often our only ally.
As we grow and mature, we often realize many of our goals, a spouse, children, and a home. It cannot be overstated, however, that our losses and disappointments, and at times, seem to become relentless. Often unexpectedly, an accident leads to the death of a friend, or even a young child, and we are devastated, left without the ability to understand or accept this reality. We turn to God and ask why.
These tragedies lead us toward thoughts of how God suffered and died for our sins, to free us from the judgment that could take us to hell. We are somewhat consoled and grateful for His great love and sacrifice. In time, we must accept that life is temporary.
Of course, appreciating what we have left in life is what we cling to. But it is not over yet, as we mature, our parents become aged, and there is more separation and loss. We may feel that the life we once knew is slipping away, and we have no control over certain aspects of our lives. Adjustments and courage are necessary for us to navigate the future, it feels so unpredictable, as it indeed is.
Turning to God for acceptance, tolerance, and understanding is where we have learned to turn to God for comfort and reassurance.
As the saying goes, the rest is history! We learn to love God with a deeper sense of His love for us and desire to be with Him. However, should we be hospitalized or experience a serious health issue, we pray for God’s love and mercy to spare us. There it is, the feeling of wanting to be with Christ, and fighting with our last breath to be able to remain on earth with family, all that we have become accustomed to.
How can we resolve this conflict?
My only resource is Christ! I pray for strength, trust, and acceptance of His will.
