Are You A Temple For The Holy Spirit?
What is it about a Smile? Why do we not hear of Jesus smiling or laughing?
Eileen Renders
On this subject, we all have impressions and opinions regarding why we rarely see a painting of Jesus smiling or laughing. In fact, never have I seen a Bible verse referencing how Jesus smiled or laughed. In reflection, I recall one rendering of Jesus smiling a huge smile, given to me by my sister, who really liked it. I, on the other hand, felt a bit turned off by it as it was not the God that I thought I knew, or felt within my heart.
The reason I feel this way is because Jesus was always aware of why the Father sent Him to earth, and what was facing Him. He was here to teach us, to be an example in everything He did, and ultimately to be crucified on the Cross for our sins. His life was short, and He was here on a serious mission. He did not joke and laugh with “the guys.” Yet, I do believe His heart melted when little children came to Him, and wanted to sit beside Him. Maybe that is when he smiled softly at them.
Perhaps those of His people who wanted very much to see Jesus smiling, or looking happy, and it causes them sadness, I propose this to them; For Jesus’ people who love them deeply, and have wanted to see Him smile, He often provides those with a smile that prompts people to remark about their smile.
The next time you are greeted with the kind of smile that brightens your day, perhaps it is God’s way of smiling at you through one He calls His own.
It is not an exaggeration, for those who spend much of their time with Jesus and follow Him, Jesus may bless them with something bright and beautiful to share with others, and that just might be their smile.
Jesus smiling at us through one of His chosen is a blessing, and it can affirm for us that Jesus lives.
God is omnipresent; He knows all, sees all, and hears all.
It is often sad to realize that at times, God’s people believe He is an authoritarian, wanting us to follow His rules and please Him. This is not true! God wants to save us from the snares of the Evil One. Also, we would be wise to remember how much God wants to shower His people with graces and blessings, but cannot because we are disobedient and at times disrespectful to His Commandments.
We can open our hearts and open the door to many gifts from God; our treasures await us.
