Legislating Morality: Can we or Should We?
Another Look at the Holy Trinity
How much effort can we exert to speak about, write as researchers, or even assume that man can dissect the Holy Trinity and even come close to moving any further than just accepting its reality. I have written articles in the past with the same thought of reminding myself and anyone who shows interest in this belief that a reminder shows we do have an intense interest in who God is.
Going back to Genesis and the first mention of the Holy Spirit; “the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters.” (Gn 1: 2). A mighty wind - another term for who the Spirit of God is. Keep alert that each time we speak of one of the occurrences of Father, Son, or Holy Spirit of God, all three persons of the Trinity are there at the same time. We cannot dissect the Trinity and place one person acting alone. That could be the first of many mysteries regarding the Holy Trinity.
The Holy Trinity is one God. When looking at the individual persons in one entity that is completely God it is impossible to separate a Holy, Unified Presence of our Creator, our Redeemer, and our Salvation for all eternity. My wife and I heard a neighbor woman who is a Muslim, told us they believe in one God not three like us. That shows the confusion that exists regarding the Christian truth that the Trinity is one God, only.
Questions among Muslims and even many Christians cannot grasp the fact that God is one divine existence while being composed in three persons. Here we must identify what a person is in any culture; human and divine.
Persona, an extension of a single person that as a noun states; the aspect of someone’s character that is presented to or perceived by others. A persona is a profile. A character sketch. An aspect of their character or nature that they present to other people, perhaps in contrast to their real character or nature. (taken from the internet in essence). When trying to put the understanding of the personage of the three persons of the Trinity we must put a human definition of a noun that we use to explain the three persons of the Holy Trinity.
That may confuse any of us as we try to explain our own questions about divine entities. Remember that the Holy Trinity is God and an explanation is not necessary for divinity to humanity. We do not have an exploratory means to interpret the divine and so we must adhere to the word given us that there are some things we must take the word of Christ.
“My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Col 2: 2 - 3).
The Father and I are one. I in them and you in me (Jn 17: 23). The Holy Spirit is also one with us making the unification of the Holy Trinity is the one same God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When placing the name of any of the three divine persons in thought, word, or deed, you are calling on the One Eternal God who exists without origin like human beings. He is one yet composed of three distinct persons. That is the Holy Trinity of God!
