Let Jesus Guide Your Way: Epiphany Reflection
By now, everyone has been talking about the CEO and HR rep caught on camera during a Coldplay concert. Some may believe it was coordinated. Yet, it has gotten many people to think about the choices we make day in and day out.
Without a doubt, the two who got cozy and caused a chain reaction have never understood the purpose of the sacrament of matrimony. We may surmise the fact that they never had a marriage within the church to make it Christ-centered.
God reminds us, “You shall not commit adultery”. Although the affair was discovered, it has opened the floodgates to personal and even professional repercussions. One of which is that the CEO will be sued by his wife, who will walk away with a substantial payout from the court.
Extra marital affairs put people who promised to be loyal to their spouse in the state of mortal sin. It causes serious damage to the bond formed by the man and wife. It is never justified to go and have extracurricular affairs with anyone, single or married. God calls us to be pure, no matter what stage in life we are in, Chastity must be practiced in marriage. Without it, the marriage is damaged.
Since the affair went viral, it has become a punchline from late-night, endless AI-generated photos, and even a sports mascot reenacting the event during a recent home game.
Matt Fradd wrote in his blogpost that reminds us of how we should respond and navigate this trending phenomenon.
"Instead of judging, the saints treated sinners like wounded members of their own body. They were grieved, not scandalized. They corrected with patience, not contempt. They understood that love covers a multitude of sins and that to despise one’s neighbor is to cut oneself off from the Body of Christ. ... And now, a little prayer from Ephrem the Syrian for you and me to make our own: 'If I have made fun of my brother’s sins when my faults are countless … have mercy, my Lord and Creator, on me Thy wretched and unworthy servant.' Amen"
Married couples, be sure that God is at the center of your marriage. If he is not, then it’s time to reassess.
Those who are engaged and preparing for marriage, be sure that your soul, body, and mind are pure. Have a God-centered marriage by marrying in the church.
Pray for the adulteress and pray for more holy and faithful marriages to increase with God as their guide.
