Get Behind Me
Ask
A man came one dark night
Late late by only the starlight
Upon my door did he knock
Firm and sound like a rock
Shelter for his family he inquired
My mind spun for I was truly tired
But the air was damp and felt cold
Time for my heart to either tremor or be bold
He was traveling from afar
A refugee of an ongoing war
A person a human being
With his family from danger fleeing
They needed water and some food
Anything we could offer he said would be good
I peered and saw his vehicle bustling
But no figures just rustling
I offered for them to come in and rest
He said he was not sure if that were best
But gracious he said of our offer
Not like my fellow neighbor
A cantankerous sort is he
Not happy nor pleasant with anybody
Pray I do for his conversion
From evil and his aversion
Our Lord said do not offer a snake
If a drink is asked for such a mistake
Always give kindness
For then you’ll enjoy total joy and happiness
Amen
