The Glory of St. John the Baptist
For years, I have always enjoyed a four-word slogan from an organization in my area. It was recognizable to many teens and college students. The sticker had a phrase that read “I’m Worth Waiting For”.
That phrase would inspire many young people to strive for a pure life, while our culture is fed the counterfeit about sex. It began in an inspiring way for many young people to know their worth when it comes to looking for their spouse or vocation in the church.
St. Francis De Sales reminds us, “Be who you are and be it well”. God is calling each of us to stand out in the world, not to blend in with the world.
The readings today remind us that we are worth more than earthly possessions, and we must seek something higher in this world. As St. Paul wrote to the Colossians, “Seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.”
In the eyes of God, he knows our worth. It is our task on earth to acknowledge it through the scope of faith. People will beat, diss, mock, and persecute you. Always remember that you’re worthy of love and always a part of God’s plan.
St. Ignatius of Antioch wrote, “No earthly pleasures, no kingdoms of this world can benefit me in any way”. He acknowledges that God can please us when we fixate our goals and worth towards him.
Strive to know how worthy you are in God’s eyes.
For those struggling with self-esteem issues, you are worth it
For those struggling with standing out in the world to bring about the gospel, you are worth it.
To the one suffering from mental or physical illnesses, you are worth it.
You’re worthy. Know your worth.
