A Prayer for the Dead
If we as Catholics would actually start living our Faith genuinely, trusting the Church as the representation of law and the guidance of Christ here on Earth, and made ourselves subordinate fully and wholly to God, we could change the world, overnight!
It all started in a garden, all those many years ago. The snake appeared and quite easily was able to undermine God’s creation. The Devil has hated mankind since the dawn of the age, preferring to rule in Hell rather to serving in Heaven. He is very masterful at deceit. Satan makes vice seem honorable and good, but he directs everything toward evilness. He is winning many souls. He revels in the delights of this earthly realm which will not last like the glory that he will never attain. Why is it that Satan hates mankind so much?
Pride, it is the most dangerous and poignant of all vices. Pride is what the Devil seductively introduced Eve to. This pride and mistrust of God, introduced us all to death. The devil convinces us that we are right and God is wrong, about all kinds of issues. You can see the shift, even among people who proclaim to be faithful Catholics. We deny that the Church owns the truth regarding issues such as same sex marriage, contraception and male only ordination of priests, among many others. The Devil so masterfully is able to confuse and distort Truth in a perverse way that leads good people toward horrible and false relative ideas about critical Catholic theology. The true tragedy is the damage done, while the spirit is slowly demoralized and lost into an abyss of upheaval and a mess of conscience. You see, we can never truly rest and have peace while submerged in falsehood and lies.
We witness how active the devil is in today’s world, yet this has always been so. Every single generation since Adam has suffered at the hands of this king of darkness. He has maneuvered us to abuse the great gift of freedom gifted to us by God and to trust our own wills over our Creator’s. This pride grows rapidly and we soon trust in ourselves more than our God, our will becomes preferable and right. How often do we stray from the Church teaching that we ourselves have determined to be wrong, intolerant, or misguided? We decide that we need to follow our conscience, but this only is effective and healthy if our conscience has been formed in Truth and purity.
We are like God in a way that no other creature is, including the Angels. We all bear God’s image in our very beings, more so than even the great Angels of Heaven. We are made to a greater glory than even these angels in our likeness and similar image of God. Never think that you or a loved one will be granted Angel status upon death, we were created for something very different than that. Angels are pure spirit, we are like Christ, spirit and body, and one day we will exist in Heaven in spirit and body as well. The angels will not. This is one reason the Devil envies human beings, because of our likeness and being made in the image of God. It is truly an honor, one that we should hold in awe and reverence.
Satan leads us toward a future of death and misery. A future that is void of God. He leads us to a future of unimaginable suffering. It is a choice though, to follow his way. You see, we can either submit to God’s will or our own. It is quite simple. If we decide that we know more and better than God and decide to do it our own way, then we will get what we have asked for, we will be on our own for all of eternity. Our mistrust and rejection of God, is owned by us. Yes, we may be led astray by Satan, but we allow him to do this. You see by rejecting all the gifts that God has given us to aid us toward his gift of salvation, we reject him, and choose Hell. There is nobody in Hell that did not make that choice for themselves, and upon death we understand that. You see, Jesus came and saved us, but that salvation is a choice, we must choose it for ourselves. God has also bestowed on us the great gift of free will. He wants our love and dedication to be given to him freely, not under duress, threats or pressure; otherwise he would be a tyrant, and we would be his slaves, not his adopted sons and daughters. If God allowed all into Heaven whether they accepted him or not, then there would really be no justice, and Heaven would be no different than Earth.
There is a solution to all the evil in this world. God’s will and plan shall be victorious in the end. We just need to heed his call and decide if we will get in line with his commands and plans and obey him. Will we trust God? He knows what is best, and he has left us a Universal Church to guide us and lead us. God desires our salvation more than we do. As the age moves toward it’s end, the message is clear. Jesus, will we trust in you?
