DID YOU KNOW THIS? Christmas — “Christ’s Mass” Share
SUNDAY, AUGUST 17, 2025
Every single day—across deserts, mountains, cities, villages, jungles, and distant islands—over 300,000 Catholic Masses rise like incense before God.
More than 400,000 priests stand at altars, offering the one Sacrifice of Christ, proclaiming the same eternal Word, and feeding souls with the same Body and Blood first given to the Apostles.
Through the Church’s three-year liturgical cycle, every generation walks with Jesus step by step through the Scriptures, as though sitting at His feet.
ONE SPIRIT. ONE WORD. ONE BREAD. UNCHANGING. STILL.

GOSPEL — LUKE 12:49–53 (RSV Catholic Edition)
Jesus said to His disciples:
“I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it was already kindled!
I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how I am constrained until it is accomplished!
Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division;
for henceforth in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three;
they will be divided, father against son and son against father,
mother against daughter and daughter against her mother,
mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
REFLECTION — LIGHT, FIRE, AND FAITH
Christ’s words today invite us to ponder the blazing power of divine truth breaking into our world. He speaks of fire—not chaos, but transformation. A consuming, purifying flame that ignites change. And yes, division—even within families—because authentic discipleship disrupts complacency.
Jeremiah’s story mirrors this. Cast into a muddy cistern for his fidelity to God, he was saved only because one courageous soul defied oppressive voices (Jeremiah 38:4–10). Faith often meets fierce resistance—but God always provides rescuers.
From Hebrews we draw strength to persevere: “Let us throw off every weight… and run with perseverance the race set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1–4).
In Christ’s refining fire, we discover that faith is not comfortable—it is courageous.
May we embrace the fire today:
Let it purify our intentions.
Let it embolden our witness.
Let it unite us in Christ, even as the world pressures us to conform.
“Lord, kindle in us the fire of Your love—let it not consume us, but transform us.”
A LETTER TO THE SEEKER
My friend,
If you are reading this with a stirring in your heart—a desire to know Christ more deeply—then know this: you are not alone. Many have walked this path before you. It can feel uncertain, even frightening, to pursue faith at its core, stripped of expectations, traditions, or the opinions of others.
You may worry how your family will respond, or whether your community will understand. These questions are real. But do not let fear rule your heart. The One who calls you knows you fully. He is closer than your breath.
Today’s Gospel startles us: “I have come to cast fire upon the earth… Do you think I have come to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division” (Luke 12:49–53).
At first, His words feel heavy. But look deeper. The fire He brings is truth. Truth divides not to destroy, but to free. To follow Christ may cause tension—even among those you love—because He asks to be placed first. Yet His love will never abandon you.
God has a way of healing what feels broken, restoring what feels lost, and binding together what seems divided. Trust Him. The cost of discipleship is real, but so is the joy.
Jesus once told of a man who found a treasure buried in a field. With joy, he sold everything to buy that field (Matthew 13:44). That treasure is Christ Himself. To know Him, to follow Him, is worth more than comfort, more than approval, more than anything this world can offer. This is His Church. This is His Body.
My friend, keep seeking. Let the fire of His love burn away fear. The treasure is before you. And you will never regret finding it.
