Life.... and God
In music, if the base or drums is off, then the whole song is a mess. I know this because I played bass for 15 years with a drummer who kept my speed and accuracy on cue. He would tell me if I was rushing it or dragging it and I would do the same to him till we locked in and the "Heart and Soul" of the band led the guitar to victory. It was vital that we carried the rhythm and the feeling of the smoothness of the song fell into place.
So the same, to me, goes life. Things can jolt that rhythm, but you have to persist to get it back on track. The more it becomes askew, the harder it is to fall back into place. Making a certain time for prayer each day sets the rhythm for the day. When that time becomes interrupted, fitting in another moment, maybe lost to rushing or dragging out the task at hand. Then you find yourself in a dilemma. Where the dedication once was, is lost, to confusion of the purpose. The purpose being, honor and glory to God. Work, play, even music, can give glory and honor to God. Realizing our talents and then using them all for one purpose. Thankfulness and honor to God. Anything done without pure thought is a waste of time and talent. That rhythm helps keep one focused on that purpose. Rushing or dragging our prayer time, relinquishes the great reward of satisfaction and trueness of the deed.
There's nothing like listening to a good backing of a band. It makes you feel in sync with the flow and ebb of the sound. Praying can be the same way. The responsive voices of the Rosary, back and forth, back and forth, until the song is complete is truly gratifying not only to your ears but to the ears of our beloved Mother Mary and our dear God.
Let it flow naturally and you will understand rhythm. A vital part of music "and" prayer.
