Love, it's a good thing
St Monica was born long ago in 331 AD, in Thagaste Africa, which is now known as Algeria and died on August 27th, 387 AD, in Ostia Antica, Italy at the young age of 56 years old. She is mother of one of the greatest Saints, Saint Augustine. Her death occurred while she and her son were in Ostia, awaiting passage to North Africa after she had great joy of seeing Augustine converted to Christianity. 17 years of prayer for her child's conversion. Many years she labored, following him and praying for his conversion, for he had been on a path of destruction of soul. She never ever ceased in her constancy in trying to convert him back to God and this pursuit took heavy tolls on her body, yet never giving up in her prayer for his conversion. A true mother's love. 17 years of prayer. 17 years of faith in that prayer. Unceasing. Never giving up in her pleading to God for him to leave his evil ways and return to his faith and God. Unwavering in countless surrender to God, that God would hear her prayer. God did so and made Saint Augustine one of the greatest Saints of Heaven. Known for his influential writings like "Confessions"and "City of God".
This great woman is a prime example of a mother's love, a parents love for their child. Realizing all the snares of this world and never stopping in praying for the protection of the Heavenly Throne of God and conversion from such corruption of soul that so many have chosen as the path for their lives.
St Monica is a hero besides being a great Saint. She is an excellent example of perseverance in prayer and determination of a mother's love for her child. Another great friend we have in her as we struggle with the youth of today and the horrible influences they must come up against daily that lead their souls astray.
Let us ask Saint Monica's intercession and plead for our children, our grandchildren, who are our future. She is happy and willing to help us, as she knows the struggles one goes through in keeping our sons and daughters Pure and Holy, so that they may "remain" sons and daughters of God.
Oh dear Saint Monica, pray for us and for our children.
