In Memoriam: Iryna Zaruska

The nation was rocked by the tragic death of a young Ukrainian refugee. Iryna Zaruska, who left Ukraine for the United States for a better life, was murdered by a homeless man battling schizophrenia, Decarlos Brown Jr.

On a transit in Charlotte, Brown stabbed Zaruska to death repeatedly, and she was pronounced dead before 10 PM.

Zaruska and her family escaped war-torn Ukraine for a better life in the United States as they settled in Charlotte, NC.

Tragically, as a camera showed in the events leading to her death, people saw what Brown was doing and did nothing to stop him.

Zaruska would be alive today if someone had stood up and protected her.

Now, she became a statistic in the national homicide count, thanks to a system that has let violent offenders be convicted of heinous crimes. We must pray for justice to be served and for Decarlos Brown to renounce Satan's influence on his life. 

For the soul of Iryna Zaruska, eternal rest, grant unto her, O Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
