A Call To Christian Action
Submitted by Thomas Stidl
Recently we witnessed the assassination of Charlie Kirk and the murder of Iryna Zarutska. How are Christians supposed to handle these events and respond to their aftermath? In both cases, all Christians must get involved in the lives of others. If a stabbing or any other chaotic action occurs, we must attend to the victims of these aberrations. If we can we must try to stop the actions before they become aberrations. We should always report people with weapons that are on a roof or other high places. We should always call 911 in these emergencies. We should not just stand or sit there and do absolutely nothing. Both the perpetrator and the victim are human beings like you and I. Showing compassion for humans without regard for their politics, religion, moral beliefs, race or color is the marching order for the day.
The next deed to be accomplished is to pray. We must pray for the victims of these crimes along with their families. We must also pray for the perpetrators of that crime that they seek forgiveness for their actions. We must also pray for the people who find delight in someone’s death. This type of reaction of happiness when your political or religious foe dies is demonic depravity. I say a prayer to our Blessed Mother every morning, part of which is, “May the persecuted find in you consolation, and the persecutors, conversion and forgiveness.” Perhaps, we should pray three Hail Mary’s a day, nice and slowly, to bring these people to their senses. The persecutors must convert and be forgiven so the we who are known as the Church Militant can help them lead lives of penance and become pleasing to God and man.
Our youth must also get involved showing concern for both the victims and persecutors of these crimes. These are high ideals for our youth to follow. I believe that our youth need a hymn to help them close ranks and concentrate on the tasks ahead. About sixty years ago, I remember a hymn entitled, “An Army Of Youth”. The first chorus is as follows:
“An army of youth flying the standards of truth, we’re fighting for Christ our Lord. Heads lifted high, Catholic Action our cry and the cross our only sword. On earth’s battlefield, never a vantage we’ll yield as dauntlessly on we sing. Comrades true, dare and do ‘neath the Queen white and blue. For our flag, for our faith, for Christ the King.”
This is as close as I can remember the first part of this hymn. There are other stanzas to this hymn. You will need to do an internet lookup for the balance of these verses. Maybe our youth can use this hymn from the baby boomer generation.
Until next time, Laus Tibi, Christe. Deo Gratias. Gloria Tibi Domini. Laus Deo. See you in Paradise.
