Elf: 20 Years
September may be close to over. But September 25th marks the 90-day mark until Christmas. Yes, we have All Hallows’ Eve and Thanksgiving to get to, I agree. Yet, it doesn’t hurt to get ready for the birth of Christ within the next 90 days.
Sometimes we get caught up in the hype of the rush that we seem to forget what the holiday’s true meaning is.
Fulton Sheen reminds us, “The world might have expected the Son of God to be born in an inn; a stable would certainly be the last place in the world where one would look for him. The lesson is: divinity is always where you least expect to find it. So the Son of God made man is invited to enter into his own world through a back door.”
Christmas is more than shopping for presents. It is about the presence of God in our lives. Let’s prepare now for Christ’s coming into our hearts by detaching from the things of the world and attaching ourselves to what is to come.
Advent begins on November 30th and will run until Wednesday, December 24th. Let’s make a plan to find things to draw closer to Jesus during that time frame while also learning to be as humble as the Holy Family was during the first Christmas.
Magnificat has an Advent Companion that is available to everyone now. It’ll be shipped in time for the new liturgical year. Order it here.
Be on the lookout for Busted Halo for their Advent Challenge on social media.
Participate in any almsgiving opportunities at your parish, especially the Advent giving tree.
These are the ways to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.
