Our beloved Saint of the day was hot headed and he still made it to Heaven! He was stubborn and sharp tongued during scholarly debates. It is noted, that he didn't always teach the Gospel with the spirit of kindness. Telling me, that his oppositions were met with much doubt and need to be convinced of the Truth. In our days, we call it "tough love", something people need that just won't see the light. In his frustration to explain the Gospel it made him cranky to those who refused to understand. Who fought him without the knowledge, that, like which he possessed.
Gosh! I can relate! It frustrates me when people refuse to believe in a God who is so evident. It comforts me to know there are Saints in Heaven who struggled with anger in their quest to make God known and His Scriptures to all. It allows me to accept myself for the way God created me and to beg His Mercy to change me in the ways that I err.
Good Saint Jerome, is a Doctor of the Church. He took on the great task of translating the Holy Scriptures into Latin. That in itself would make me cranky. Unending hours of translation is not an easy task, but one that the Church has relied upon for centuries!
He is a Saintly intercessor for our times! With heated debates being made against right and wrong, it is good and necessary to call upon this great Saint, in confidence, to guide our words and demeanor, always remembering, that sometimes it takes a solid, stern approach to make the truth of God and His existence known, with firmness and unapologetically.
