The Feast of Saint Martha and my new job
Are you ready to vote? Did you pray about it? Talk to spouse/friends/family about their choices? It’s a contentious time isn’t it?
Those of us who have been around a while have never experienced anything like this. I remember reading full page ads in the newspapers the day of the election about a scandal that a candidate was supposedly involved in. With the internet and social media, it is so much worse. I was accused of posting something on Facebook about a candidate when I was merely tagged in the post. Even if I had posted about one of the candidates, would it have been that grievous a thing to do? Can you imagine?
I no longer read my news feed on Facebook. I understand everyone has their cause and candidate, but after a while, I’m thinking, “Don’t you have a life? Where are the pictures of your kids, grandchildren or pets? Where oh where are the funny videos?” Facebook used to be fun. Now it’s become a battlefield.
So I’m preparing to vote the best way I know how. Through prayer. I attend daily Mass whenever possible. I have long conversations with only my husband and children. Anyone else seems to be for their candidate and have no interest in a real discussion. I was beginning to wonder, “How can I possibly be friends with you?” It’s gotten that bad.
It’s awful, but it will be over soon and then I think the real prayer time for our nation will be needed.
The one thing I’m grateful for is that Thanksgiving is AFTER the election!
