“While walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men”. Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, on the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him”.
(Matthew 4:18-22).
I may have written about this before (honestly, I don't remember). But, let's go through this.
First of all, I love how there's word play in English (I don't speak Greek, but, for those that do, ? Matthew 4:18 ?, ? Matthew 4:19 ?).
The fishermen, will become fishers of men. I think that works to the ESV-CE's credit. “Fishers of people”, doesn't sound as good. Nice use of word play, there.
I love the fact that the text reads like you have these two brothers like immediately leaving their dad to do the work by himself.
But, I think there's a broader point here. Are you willing to give up comfort to follow Jesus?
Are you willing to repent? Are you willing to amend your life and show the world the love that God has for you, but living for God's only begotten Son, because, as you'll recall,For God so loved the world
I think there are people living sinful lifestyles, being deceptive, that know that they can't keep up this charade forever, that are clinging to the sins they love, but, know deep down, this isn't what they want.
Are you ready to follow him?
