Elder Parishioners, You are God's Gift to Me
In the first reading today, Habakkuk cries out to God for help but God is not intervening.
All Habakkuk sees is misery, strife, discord, and violence. Sounds like our world… doesn’t it? We may ask ourselves the same question in the midst of so much suffering and war: Why aren't you intervening, God? Why aren't you bringing peace?
God responds to Habakkuk telling him to write down the vision clearly. He tells him that the vision still has its time, that it presses on to fulfillment, and it will not disappoint. If it delays, wait for it, for it will surely come and it will not be late.
A friend of mine recently asked me if their prayers matter at all. Is God really listening to me? Does he hear my needs, hopes, and dreams? Will God ever bring the peace I’m praying for to the world? Especially when there is no movement and all I feel is misery, depression and hopelessness because of my situation and the situation of our world?
I think today’s first reading shows us that God does hear us and that God does respond to us. How many of us have been shown a vision for our lives that hasn’t yet come to fruition? If that’s you, this reading is for you. Write it down. Wait for it. Hope in it. Believe that even if it delays, God will make it happen if He gave you that vision.
Have faith at least the size of a mustard seed that God will see that vision through.
