The Teachings of Saint Paul
There is a legend, that Saint Denis, after being beheaded picked up his head and walked several miles preaching a sermon on repentance before dying at his chosen burial site. He is often depicted in art as a bearded Bishop holding his own severed head, sometimes with a Halo behind the head or stump up the neck. This miraculous feet of "head carrying", is known as a "cephalophoric miracle".
Just in time for Halloween, this great Saint can be attributed for just that. The pagans of the city had him and his companions beheaded. But instead of falling down dead, Saint Denis picked up his head and continued walking for 2 miles preaching the Gospel. He did eventually fall upon the ground of his own chosen spot, but this phenomenon was witnessed by all who saw the beheading. His companions died there, but Saint Dennis is the only one of them to produce this miracle. He is a symbol of Faith and Resilience. There is a Basilica in France that bares his name, and he is revered as one of their greatest Patrons along with St Joan of Arc. His feast day is today and we ask him for intercession that we might have in us, our own perseverance in this world towards our Heavenly home in Heaven. Asking him to strengthen us in the spreading of Jesus Christ's words and the Gospel. To help teach and lead all people to Christ.
Saint Denis, pray for us!
