The Holy Grail
Submitted by Thomas Stidl
What exactly is the Holy Grail? The Holy Grail is the cup or chalice that Jesus used to change wine into his Precious Blood during the first Holy Eucharist meal. It is a Jewish Kiddush cup or what is commonly called a blessing cup. The Apostles drank from this cup at the Last Supper. Joseph of Arimathea also used this cup to collect Christ’s blood during the crucifixion. This cup is said to have Divine and healing power which was the hallmark of the mission of Jesus while preaching the gospel of the Kingdom of God on earth.
After the Ascension and Descent of the Holy Spirit, Popes would use this cup for the Eucharistic Celebration. Around 257 AD, the cup or Holy Chalice was moved from Rome to Spain for safety reasons. It was moved to Spain by Saint Lawrence, a deacon of Pope Sixtus after the Pope was martyred and was hidden in the mountains during the Muslim Invasion. According to legend, King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table sought to find the Holy Chalice as it is also known due to its supernatural powers.
Where is the Holy Grail located now? It is located in the Santo Chaliz in the Chapel of the Holy Chalice in the Cathedral of Valencia, Spain. I believe that there are still pilgrimages that go there from time to time. What is the cup made from? It contains red agate that appropriately is within the time of Our Lord’s life on earth. It has since been placed on a base of gold, precious stones, and pearls. This is an amazing physical proof of the life of Jesus on earth.
Until next time, Laus Tibi, Christe. Deo Gratias. Gloria Tibi Domini. Laus Deo. See you in Paradise.
