A poem on the Holy Face of Jesus
We see so many pictures on paintings, on prayer cards, on the movie screen, depicting someone's idea of what Jesus looked like. The Shroud of Turin has even digitally remade His image to fit the image on the Shroud, giving us an idea of what Jesus might have looked like. I believe the Face of Jesus will be so beautiful when I see it in person, that my eyes will never ever want to look away because of that beauty.
Here's the thing though, aren't we all made in His image? We see Jesus daily and if we look really hard we'll see Him. In this mindset, we are able to be kind, loving, patient and compassionate to people because of "His" Holy Face. Yes, Jesus was Jewish, but His face takes many forms in the creatures He has created. Looking into the eyes of the homeless or sick or dying, we can see His face. His eyes come in many different colors. Sometimes they are lonely looking, sometimes they are sad, sometimes they are hungry. Looking into the eyes of such, I have been able to see the face of Jesus in them. Green, blue, brown eyes. Wrinkles or no wrinkles. Short hair, long hair, or no hair. You can actually find Jesus in that face.
Not everyone wears the face of Jesus well. Sometimes it's disfigured by anger, or temptation to self. We augment our appearance so that it doesn't even look like our true selves. Allowing someone else to be a creator of something that totally is not us. What a slap in the face to the real Creator who created us in His image. Taking away the features that define us as one and only. I believe we will enter Heaven on our Judgment Day, just exactly how we looked when we were born. Always beautiful in "His" eyes. Representing "His" face. How wonderful a God we have. How perfect He is. To think we are privileged enough to have participated in His Holy realm of creation, is a great honor.
Look upon the face of Jesus. It will comfort you and stir your soul to seek Him out wherever you go. He is there. Ask Him to stamp His image upon your heart, so that others will see Him in us. Then He will be visible for all to see, and to love.
