Every single human being is made in the image and likeness of God.
Commonly, we get our priorities messed up. Not that we are always doing so knowingly. No, we do so because we see an apparent need. As I have heard from Matthew Kelly and will paraphrase (hopefully not badly), the most important things in life are hardly ever urgent and the most urgent things are hardly ever important.
Your family would be the most important thing in life. However, if you are at all like me, you put other things before them because they appear more urgent and thus we do them before spending time with our family. Of course, there are things that must get done. Every family needs a meal to eat, etc. But there are many other things that we put before them. Do you get stuck to on the computer or smart phone like me? Sometimes it just comes down to checking them more than we NEED to.
This leads us to making a balancing act, but it’s not that hard. We make it into a difficult balancing act, but only because we are unwilling to let go of less important things. Then again, we have a hard time figuring out what the less important things are after we have gotten them so engrained in our lives. This leads us to prayer. We can ask God what our less important things are. Jesus, what is it that you want me to let go of or spend less time with?
We can also ask Jesus for help in discerning something that comes up and appears to be the most urgent thing. We can ask a quick, Jesus what do you want me to do? In most cases, it will be quite apparent what He knows to be the best thing for us to do at that moment.
Some people list out there priorities in life and then list out where their time is going. It is an interesting way to see where you are actually putting your priorities. Hopefully, for all of us, our priorities and time spent line up. If not, we have some changing to do in either our priorities or our time spent.
