The Woman at the Well: More than Meets the Eye
Probing Deeper into Scripture : Could Protestantism and Trent be in Apocalypse? ...
Common Catholic interpretation of apocalypse, or preterism, isn't much better than fundamentalism in the sense that the data that it gives in many cases is largely useless and that effectively, if you were to alter the numerology, it wouldn't effectively make much difference in the interpretation’s nature in many cases. For more details, try this.
Toward that end, possibly the letters could be viewed to go back to the more traditional way as the ages of the church according to a certain partitioning and delineation of the entire course of the history of the church.
A Catholic scholar who I questioned once objected to such interpretations by Catholic scholars down through history because they have not been rigorous, and hence largely eisegetical, and that is definitely true because each generation has tended to believe that theirs was the last.
In response to this objection, one can argue from EWTN scholarship, that the strong majority of fully approved private Revelations fairly consistently indicate what remains for the history of the church in a larger spiritual sense.
What remains is effectively two to three larger spiritual developments. One is conditional , the other two are unconditional by the primary scenario.
The first phase is the conditional minor tribulation whose purpose will be, if it comes, to produce a repentance in the world.
If humanity sufficiently repents, it can be evaded and the world will go into the first unconditional phase.
This first unconditional phase is a glorious renewal of faith in the world and the reign of the Immaculate heart within humanity. This could otherwise be called the age of peace.
If the world does not repent in time, a mitigated or full tribulation will come after which the unconditional aforementioned age of Peace comes.
In other words, the age of peace is coming. The question is whether the world wants to repent now or learn the hard way in a temporary tribulation.
The scenario continues that the age of Peace will last as long as the world continues to cooperate with the grace of God.
However, because unconditionally public Revelation tells us that the world will apostatize at the end, it is unconditional that the age of peace will eventually dissolve by laxity , leading to the unconditional phase of great apostasy, antichrist, persecution, conversion of the jews, the Great tribulation, followed by the unknown hour that Christ returns to end human history.
With this in mind, we are able to envision the whole panorama of church history, knowing what remains and how it ends. Hence it is more in our grasp to have a rigorous understanding of the ages than before , when the end was not as clear now as it is in a spiritual sense.
Toward this end, space does not exist yet to work out the claims of what these ages would be.
Suffice it to say that since the devil is only mentioned in two great sections of apocalypse, namely here in the beginning of Apocalypse in the letters, and then mainly the latter half of the Apocalypse in greater scenes like chapter 12 and then further residual chapters, it can be argued that a correlation is intended on the devil, since no other common sense context seems so evident.
And actually when we undertake the correlations, everything turns out wonderfully!
With this in mind, when we correlate these two great sets of corresponding phases, the ages work out so that letter three is the Middle ages and letter 4 Is Protestantism and the conglomerate supernatural death of the world with a purely natural conception of reality bridges the gap between Protestantism and our modern darkness of minor apostasy.
Returning to letter four then, in that letter, The great character Jezebel is seen.
Jezebel calls herself a prophetess and seduces the children of Christ to eat meat sacrificed to idols and to fornicate.
In metaphor, Christ’s figurative relationship to the bride the church, descends down into the priest. Here , the priest stands in the place of Christ. He is the origin of truth and grace, the seed of truth and grace, which proceeds from him spiritually just as the seed of life proceeds from the literal man. The parish who receives his truths in the sermon and his sacraments of grace is like the lireal receptive woman , who receives the seed within her being.
The process continues down. The schismatic priest , as it were, is also a valid husband to the parish because he possesses holy orders. Apart from those formality of holy orders, no man can really be called a man of God on a real sense.
Hence, digressing to heretical ministers, we must realize by disclaimer that a great portion of these men truly desire to know the truth and to pass it on to their parishioners.
Henc by their subjective good intentions to please God , God is able to save them despite their errors and deficiency by using those truths and Grace that they have and which they can communicate as a means of sanctification of souls including their own, remembering that the heretical communities objectively possess both baptism and marriage as means of grace when they follow the proper form and matter.
Nevertheless, when we continue to speak objectively, and realize that there are no sacrament of holy orders unless true apostolic succession is present, the poor heretical minister is not truly ordained in the formal sense because they don't come from apostolic succession.
In consequence, although subjectively they desire to please God and to do his will and follow the gospel to pass it on, nevertheless, because the formality of holy orders evades them, for all practical purposes they are self-appointed pseudo men God , at least objectively.
So metaphorically, since there is no formality of the spiritual union between the minister and his flock, subjectively and figuratively, it is like committed cohabitation.
This then can image the minimal form of fornication that Jezebel figuratively can speak of.
As for meat to idols, in the Old testament there were only two extremes of worship. There was the true worship of Jerusalem in the levitic priesthood. And then there was the horror of idolatry
Here, however, we might know that there is an intermediate phase.
More specifically, after the schism of the North broke away, idol worship became the prominent form of worship throughout most of Israel. However there was some within the kingdom that retained the true holy worship of Yahweh.
But later, when Jezebel took power, which is to say the jezebel of old, she viciously attempted to enforce universal worship throughout Israel, which was surely diabolical to the hilt.
This, then, establishes two sub phases of the schismatic separated Kingdom. The first, as mentioned, is partially corrupt but not fully, since you always worship is still retained in some places.
But the final phase is complete or utterly diabolical since Jezebel is trying to enforce the idol worship everywhere and not just in part.
This seems to establish three phases of gradation of worship.
Before the schism, Yahweh is prominent largely.
Then after schism there was first partial corruption then full.
Interestingly, in the New testament age, prior the schism there is only Catholicism. After the schism some minor corruption ended the mild errors of the Orthodox.
Finally, some 500 years later, the worst form arises in the heretical rebellion.
This provides greater evidence that Jezebel of old is a type of the Apocalypse Jezebel.
In the New testament Covenant, there's also gray area. Both schizmatics and the faithful possess a true form of worship, namely The Divine liturgy or the mass. In this mass, the priest sacrifices up not literal meat or flesh not literal bread and wine, but what effectively becomes the body and blood soul and Divinity of the eternal son of the father to the father.
Yet on a sad note, to the very reality that the heretical minister does not have holy orders, by way of implication he loses five of the seven sacraments that absolutely require apostolic succession , one of which is the supreme Holy Eucharist.
Further analysis could then mean that meat to idols in this apocalyptic metaphor, can be a hyperbole for a form of worship that does not fully please God , even as it were, idolatry in the Old testament most certainly did not please him. This is not to say that God looks with condemnation upon Protestant worship. But we can say that in a certain gray area, it is not the positive desire of God that he be worshiped merely in a form of liturgy of the word, without the liturgy of the Eucharist , or what is effectively only a pseudo manifestation , since it is merely crackers and grape juice, and not the true meat and flesh and blood of the son of man and his body and soul.
The scripture goes on profoundly and says that the Christ says, “ and I gave her space to repent but she would not. “
What might that mean?
It would seem to mean by common sense that there was a great apocalyptic response to Protestantism that was meant to answer some of her objections and concerns, namely in doctrine and perhaps to reform the Church morally to some extent , seeing as the church did in fact realize that a great moral laxity had fallen into much of the clergy and hierarchy.
In addition, there were a lot of doctrinal questions that needed clarification from the myriads of hurricanes of heresies that were swirling through the spiritual air of the world at that time, through the devastating divisions of the Protestant rebellion.
Yet, in fact, less than a generation after the Great horror of this heretical rebellion , the church did in fact set up a space as it were, to try to answer the Protestants with the hope they might come back ,which is to say that the woman Jezebel might repent in this quote on quote space.
Hence Trent and the Counter Reformation.
Sadly we know that it was unable to bring about a fully substantial reconversion of the poor heretics back to the church, and the swirling hurricane only developed into greater and greater stages over the next centuries until now, several thousand different primary forms of Protestantism now exist, all trying to fully explain the meaning of the scriptures and their full implications for the gospel.
But of course, the inevitable result of such chaos in terms of beliefs, fighting bloodshed hatred and betrayal etc etc, the natural but terrible reaction to this is what we could call a great supernatural death of the world, in which much of humanity lost faith in general revealed and salvific religion and decided to hold on to a simple basic natural conception of reality, basing themselves only upon a brute natural philosophy or reason.
Also, this led to a rejection of the notion that the Creator helps us and saves us to do what is right .
So God is merely a natural creator, and it is believed that he can be fully understood merely with reason or natural philosophy unaided by revelation.
Similarly, it is believed that the human person can fully keep the natural law without any assistance from God and that humanity can solve their problems without supernatural intervention or assistance.
Profoundly again, the pronunciation of the Christ is said that , “whoever commits adultery with her , I will cast her upon a bed of nails, and her children quote on quote I will kill with DEATH!”
Obviously this language is unbelievably hyperbolic and not to be taken literally.
This is because first of all, Christ is In no wise interested in killing anyone as it were whether physically or spiritually.
Secondly, we must realize that the language must be figurative. Indeed then, the solution would effectively be that Jezebel's activity , as it were , gives birth by way of implication and the nature of the Fall, figuratively, to a spiritual death. And yet that is what we see above. That is, that the great confusion and division of Protestantism caused the disillusionment of what was, again, the great supernatural death of the world, it's rejection of supernatural Revelation and Grace, and hanging on to a mere natural condition.
This of course cannot be fully argued except in the context of the entirety of the letters as the ages of the church in a certain delineation and partitioning.
For the record, as we discussed above, we just work them out by correlating them to the scenes of the dragon after the Ascension of the Christ child in Apocalypse 12.
Once again, and for now , we are applying this theology if it were to be the case that the third letter was the Middle ages and that the fourth letter was the conglomerate phase of Protestantism and its succession of supernatural death, such as the so-called enlightenment, deism rationalism the French revolution masonry, and the countless philosophies and ideologies that emerged from approximately 1700 to the early 20th century, which confounded reason and attempted to create solutions or meaning to human existence in a purely natural sense without a supernatural God.
This concludes the brief summary about the possibility of Protestantism and Trent within apocalypse as speculative reality.
