You just can't ever tell
Today, we celebrate a princess. A princess of the Kingdom of Hungary. She is a Patron of hospitals, nurses, falsely accused people, bakers, brides, countesses, dying children, exiles, homeless people, lacemakers and widows. Wow! What a resume! She is Patron of all these walks of life because she partook in all of these within her own life, while still on Earth.
She was married at the young age of 14 and widowed at 20. Her husband's name was Louis. He himself was a charitable man. Saint Elizabeth of Hungary was rich in material things but chose the better half of what it means to be rich in Christ. It is so easy to become materialistic. To make legitimate excuses to be comfortable. But if we take time to think about all those that have nothing or lost everything it is not so hard to think about Sacrifice.
Our Country has become very materialistic. Very lax, on the true meaning of our existence. Crying when we were a little too cold or no money to go to Disneyland. How many times have our bellies been so full we just couldn't eat another bite. Or left that water running as we took it for granted that it was clean running water. Saint Elizabeth got it right. She gave her wealth to those who truly needed it, all the while being joyful doing it. Moral standards are disintegrating before our very eyes and yes, maybe we are ourselves, have contributed a little to that also.
Give when you can. Whether it be money, time or talent. Nothing but our souls enter the final judgment. We take nothing with us. Remembering this now will be quite beneficial to our entrance to Heaven. We must form a village now and ask Saint Elizabeth to help us see, that it is in giving that we receive.
