Soldiers of God
I just read a sad article that People magazine has put out. It's about a young woman 25 years old, from Australia, who is telling the world she has had enough. She was diagnosed with the terminal case of Autoimmune Autonomic Ganglionopathy. The body's immune system attacks and damages nerve cells, leading to a wide range of autonomic failures such as problems with gastrointestinal and urinary tracts, pupillary dysfunction, dry mouth and dry eyes. Truly it is an excruciating disease. Just like any other horrible attack on the body such as Cancer, Stroke, Parkinsons.... The list goes on and on and on. My question is, why is this woman permitted to end her life on "her own terms". Surely, I am not saying that this suffering should be ignored, but why have we come to this decision to let medical science and medical society be the chooser of life and death once again. Calling it her "safety net" a so-called "safety blanket" to end her debilitating pain. When will we come to the realization that we are not the judges of life and death when there is only one Creator that has that right. Our God who is the Creator of all things. Have we gone so low as to really want to take the Judgment out of God's hands? It's bad enough, the people of this country and world still want to allow abortion, but now, being so much more bolder to prey on the weak bodied, full-blown adults. Where is this woman's support system? Where are the comforting arms and voices that will tell her that God is watching and that her suffering is not in vain. Not worthless.
Suffering is not easy. It never was. Everyone suffers to some degree. Unfortunately, more than others. But that doesn't mean it's not useful. Useful to the suffering soul. Useful to one and yes there are others suffering a hundred times more. Useful to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Useful for the reparation of sins and for conversions. The list goes on and on of the benefits of suffering.
We are not the ruler of life and death. It is only God and God alone who is the King of that. It may feel like we are in control, but if God does not will it, it will not happen. Only if our choice is for self and not Him does it become deadly. One could end up a vegetable in the hospital for the rest of your life because of an attempted suicide that didn't reach it's completion. Things could alway go wrong, but until people realize they are not the judge between life and death, the evil one will strike with his whip and convince sufferers they have that power, they have that choice. That's why free will is so very important to choose what is right and not what is wrong.
If we truly have Faith and believe the words that God Himself has spoken, that He will never ever give us more than we can handle, then we will choose His will and have Peace in His timing. A surrender to a God that loves us. He is not a cruel God who enjoys seeing us struggle. But I'll tell you who is. The devil, who believes he is equal to our Lord. His power is false, only in his evilness does he reign. That is evident as more people are choosing death rather than life. The evil one laughs and relishes every moment of a decision against God and God's Holy will. He laughs at our sufferings when they are dedicated to the Salvation of our Souls or the Souls of others. The devil is angered beyond measure, therefore intensifying decisions made, to do "his" will and not God's.
To be or not to be. Yes, that "is" the question. Don't let your heart and mind be swayed by deceit, but rather choose "to be", no matter what life brings us. There is a plan. A perfect plan that God had already given to us even before we were born. There is sweetness in the surrender to God's will and God's alone. Not to a self that refuses to give the very body which He created and that He alone has the power to take away.
