Rest on Consolation
Today’s readings paint us a very different picture of Christ the King. We don’t see a King robed in splendor and majesty today. Rather, we are reminded that our Christ the King emptied himself on the cross, and extended mercy to the thief beside Him.
A King who extends mercy in His greatest moment of suffering is what we see today.
And so we are asked to do the same. In our greatest moment of suffering or persecution, have we been able to extend that same mercy to someone? Maybe it’s forgiveness, or maybe it’s any of the corporal or spiritual works of mercy… feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick, welcoming the stranger, or comforting the sorrowful.
This is what it means to follow Christ the King of Mercy. To put Him on the throne of our lives during our darkest moments. Just like he did.
