NEGOTIATING HELL: a sequel to CS Lewis' "Screwtape Letters." Ch 10 - Bail-out Prayers
128-crayons prioritized our school-supply pleadings, with sharpener for "mint magic" & "macaroni and cheese."
"Bring us the BIG box," we begged. Mom ignoring our plight, buying the 16-count or 32--if prices were right.
Worn wrappers peeling, the wax stubby and honest. They came to be loved by us messy crayonists.
The kids with all colors weren't villains or spoiled. At years' end, they left most crayons untoiled.
Sharp soldiers wasted, bright hues never known. Fewer shades favored, despite the world we are shown.
God provides basics, "wants" lead us astray. "Make do" is the moral. Simple, the opportune way.
God's gifts are like colors: faith, mercy, love, hope and giving. As we bless others we grow joyful in living.
Knowing Divine love expands through our hands. "O Lord--color us humble with Your favorite crayons."
Glitter and fanciful do not make us whole. Let God color us holy, deep in our soul.
