Transcript of Pope Leo XIV's Speech
During the Advent season, faithful Catholics received an urgent prayer request from Paul Kim for his son, Micah, who was in the ICU for influenza. Kim, a Catholic influencer, took it to social media, requesting prayers for his son, who had to be rushed to the emergency room. The family fought the medical staff when they were ready to take him off life support.
Sadly, as the year was coming to a close, Micah was called home to God on New Year’s Eve.
"We are so proud of him," Kim said in the video on his Instagram page. "I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, as his dad, on behalf of my family, for all the ways you guys prayed and lifted us up during this time. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever been through in my life, and it continues to be."
In a written Instagram post, he quoted Job 1:21, "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord," and said Micah had entered "the never-ending glory, love, and peace of God."
He added that while his family’s hearts are broken, they continue to rely on their faith.
Micah’s death comes at the cusp of a serious flu variant that has been plaguing parts of the country.
Let us remember the Kim family during this time of bereavement. Yet, we must remember that Christ conquered death.
For the soul of Micah Joseph Kim, eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
