The conversion of St Paul
Like Matthew Kelly stated, " Jesus never did anything in a hurry, He, is the "Great Calm". Just think about it. When the storm was tossing the Apostles boat violently, enough for fear to try to settle in, here came Jesus. Walking calmly on that raging Sea. All the while looking at them. Telling them not to be afraid. Peter in his haste for security, knowing that this phenomenon that he was witnessing would save him from the unforgiving abyss of the sea. He starts out. But the wind was strong. Pushing him to the point of fear of drowning. Forgetting his focus on the man he was struggling to reach. He starts to sink. But Jesus grabs his hand and pulls him to safety. Only remember what Jesus replied. "Oh you of little faith. "
Jesus IS the "Great Calm". He is the one who rescues "us" from the storms in our lives. Though the waves toss us to and fro, making us lose our balance, trying their hardest to make us fearful, Jesus gives us calm when we surrender to the storm. Through this example of Jesus walking on the water amid a storm teaches us that we must strengthen our belief and trust in Him and Him alone.
Like Peter, we must all fall to our knees and proclaim ourselves as sinners who are desperately in need of that "Great Calm" that only Jesus provides and is willing to give us freely. We need that "calm" to enter into our lives, into our souls. Jesus teaches us that we also can become "Great Calmers". But we can only do that if we first incorporate that into our own lives by remembering to turn to Him, and trusting Him, in all needs. The world and many that dwell here are at unrest. Seeking calm.
Asking God to help us, as His instruments, He will provide the necessary tools we need to accomplish the "calm" and relay it to others. Recognizing the storms and then sending us someone or something that will help us return to His Peace.
We must learn from the Scriptures. Learn from the Parables Jesus provides us with. They are not just stories. They are the "Calm" we seek.
