Reflecting on the murder of a police officer

By the way, I have written about this Psalm beforeBlessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways!
Okay, so (yep, even my articles have verbal tics), I thought I would discuss this. Because, y'all probably already know my view on this, but, Children are a blessing, so, going over The Psalms again, because, well, the Psalms are what binds the Old Testament and the New, they're also the prayer of the Church.
So, as always with the shorter Psalms, I'll go ahead and give you the full text,
“Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways!
You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands;
you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house;
you children will be like olive shoots around your table.
Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.
The LORD bless you from Zion!
May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life!
May you see your children's children!
Peace be upon Israel”! (Psalm 128).
Okay! So, I was talking to a woman after the Saturday Vigil after Mass, and, no idea if she's married, but, she apparently has a daughter. Who apparently thinks I'm a bit funny. Assuming she isn't (I didn't see any ring, and no husband was mentioned), I won't cast judgement on her (which is the only spelling I was taught for that word, and what I was taught in AMERICAN schools, but, it has a red squiggly line as I type this). Anyway, whether she is married or not is irrelevant. I went to Mass, she went to Mass, we had a dispensation from our pastor from the Sunday obligation (yes, he can do that), because of winter weather, and I got to talk to her. I'm not going to go too deep, but, it got me thinking. I see a child, but, haven't heard of a husband. So, what should marriage look like?
Well, the idea that women should stay home is NOT traditionally Catholics (hear that trad bros? Y'all are modernists, take that)! It's actually a product of the Industrial revolution. My grandmother on my dad's side (who was Lutheran), worked for the US army for 30 years. And, if y'all have Formed, I would suggest checking out this audio book, The Retrial of Joan of Arc by Regine Pernoud. If you can get past the badly pronounced French, I'd suggest checking it out. But, notice something? Women worked outside of the home in the 1400s! Amazing, I know!
Anyway, since the topic of child-rearing came up, I told this woman that I believe that a woman's primary vocation IS as a wife and a mother, BUT, I told her that I never say thought a woman working outside the home was a conflict with that.
Now, we're going to get into why I have a major problem with contraceptives (Spoiler; I was against them even before I officially became Catholic)
“Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house;
you children will be like olive shoots around your table.”
What is with this obsession with limiting family size? I am the third of nine children (six living). When my mom tells people that she's had nine kids, people need to stop making snarky comments about how they “couldn't do it”.
Why not?
How do you know that?
Now, I am NOT saying women need to be baby making factories, that would be sexist, and as much as I have been tempted to become a sexist because of, well, I wrote a book about it,Elisabeth and the other man (Paperback),Elisabeth and the other man (ebook), I'm not a sexist.
But, I think maybe pumping hormones into your body because you think you're not ready for children is the complete wrong thing to do. Seriously, on Catholicmatch, I'm less offended by the people that want to do the things that lead to babies than I am by Catholics who disagree with Church teaching on contraceptives.
Question, why are you on a Catholic dating site?
Anyway, since Facebook or whatever you share this on will inevitably mislead you about the effectiveness of contraception, I think we need to talk about WHY it's wrong; HUMANAE VITAE
Now, are there other things we can do to prevent conception?
Yeah, not doing the thing that causes it.
But, if you're curious, there is this thing called Natural family planning,What is Natural Family Planning?
Be careful about researching it though, because contraceptive companies (like any company) want to make money, so, they are not beyond misleading you about what that is.
Coming back around, what I found interesting, also, is what it says before that, “Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways!
You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands;
you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you”
Notice, immediately after it says this, it mentions the whole thing about your wife being a fruitful vine? Yeah, because you need someone to pass on the labor of your hands. And, because children are a blessing.
And, to finish this up, as someone who knew my great grandmother (mother's maternal grandmother),
“May you see your children's children!” When my great grandmother died, she had great great grandchildren. There's something inherently satisfying about knowing this.
