Need Help?
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
A Prayer for When Work Feels Pointless
As many of us have felt this from time to time, there are days when work feels meaningful and days when it feels like little more than noise and repetition. Tasks blur together. Effort goes unnoticed. Purpose feels distant. Even the things we once cared about can begin to feel hollow.
When that happens, it’s easy to believe that our work doesn’t matter—or worse, that we don’t matter. But God is present even in what feels small, unseen, and unimportant. Especially there.
This prayer is for those moments.
A Prayer for When Work Feels Pointless
Lord God,
today I come to You tired and distracted,
struggling to see meaning in the work before me.
What I do feels small.
It feels repetitive.
It feels disconnected from anything eternal.
And yet, You see me.
You see the effort that no one notices.
You see the patience it takes to keep showing up.
You see the quiet sacrifices hidden in ordinary hours.
Lord, remind me that my worth is not measured
by productivity, recognition, or success,
but by my faithfulness to You.
When my work feels pointless,
help me to offer it anyway.
Let my labor—however imperfect—
become an act of obedience,
a quiet prayer,
a gift placed in Your hands.
Teach me to trust that You are working
even when I cannot see results,
even when I feel behind,
even when motivation is gone.
Give me the grace to do what is in front of me
with honesty, humility, and care,
and then to leave the outcome to You.
Lord, I place this day,
this work,
and this weariness
into Your hands.
Use it as You will.
Sanctify it as only You can.
I trust You with what feels meaningless to me,
knowing that nothing offered to You is ever wasted.
Amen.
May the Holy Names of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Be Blessed Now and Forever-Save Souls!
