Usually, sequels don't grab me the way this one did, and it surely grabbed me, right by the heart.
If you've never listened to the band, "MercyMe", it's time to start. Bart Millard's journey has taken many people's journey with him. His childhood sweetheart, Shannon, who he's been married to for over 26 years. His son Sam, who has diabetes. His road manager, Scott Brickell, founder of BrickHouse Entertainment, and now, Tim Timmons. A Grammy nominated Christian singer songwriter, who to his credit, is an inspiring story of a man living with incurable cancer. Who for over 20 years now is alive after being told he had only 5 years to live in 2001. He was the inspiration for MercyMe's second greatest hit, "Even if".
Seeing MercyMe perform on two different occasions, I never would have dreamed that such an overwhelmingly beautiful story was one I would witness on the silver screen. "I can Only imagine 1", was gut wrenching enough. Seeing the hardships of a child who would have to live with growing up with a father's bitterness towards life and a son and then result in a relationship that could only be healed by God, (and it was). Then to carry on after fame to face a trial he just couldn't shake off with his oldest son "Sam" getting severe diabetes. In the trenches of despair God sent "Tim Timmons", an unknown, into their lives to show them Hope. Therefore, cementing the true realization of a powerful and merciful God, in each of the people that they were around. The power of prayer and the surrender one must have when faced with any trial is extraordinary.
It's not just in long ago times, that we can read about. That the power of God exists. It's now. It's all around us. We just have to open our hearts and souls to a God who promises to always be there and help us through our struggles.
Please go see this movie. Don't forget your kleenexes. As the song, "Even If" will swell your heart with the Hope you just might have been looking for.
