Put Your Best Faith Forward: All Saints’ Day Reflection
Fans of Bruno Mars have waited ten years for the return of his music. Mars has released chart toppers like Uptown Funk, Lazy, Just The Way You Are, and Leave the Door Open, to name a few.
Mars is slated to release a new album titled The Romantic, and one of the songs is titled ‘Risk It All’. The song didn’t fail to disappoint. The music video for the song contains many Catholic images and even a crucifix and a medal of Our Lady of Guadalupe around his neck.
The lyrics of the song also get to the heart of what the definition of marriage is in the Catholic Church.
“To hold your hand and call you mine
I'm tryna be your man 'til the end of time.”
“I would swim across the sea just to show you
Sacrifice my life just to hold you.”
They focus on the sacrificial love marriage offers to every couple that marries in the eyes of God.
A parish in Mesa, AZ, responded to the viral video.
“We like the new music video, Bruno. ????
The Church teaches:
“The matrimonial covenant… is a partnership of the whole of life.”
— Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1601
Unending love isn’t naïve.
It’s supernatural.
It’s a daily yes.
A daily dying to self.
A daily rising together.
?? Covenant > Contract
?? Grace > Feelings
?? Forever > For now
This is Catholic love.”
There is no doubt that Bruno Mars' return with a bold statement is the beginning. We need more ways to articulate and defend the message of faith in a medium like music.
