Prioritizing Our Vocations
Today’s Gospel shows us that we all thirst to be known, loved, and respected by Jesus like the woman at the well. This is the deepest thirst of our hearts.
In Lent we learn that so many other thirsts may distract us in this life, and we may seek to quench those thirsts through other people, through things, and through experiences. This is what we try to fast from because when we do, we remember that encounters with Jesus alone can quench those thirsts deep within us.
How do we encounter Jesus? We should look for Him in prayer, His Word, the Mass, the Sacraments, and in our daily lives. It is in these places that we will find Him present and waiting for us.
Like the woman at the well, once that thirst is quenched through our ongoing encounters with Jesus, it leads us to lead others to Jesus. Our encounters change us, and make us followers of Jesus and evangelists of His message.
Our thirsts should lead us to Jesus, which lead us to others and spreading His name and message to the world around us.
