What would the saints say if they could read these pages? Perhaps they would smile kindly and forgive the imperfections of this small offering written in their honour. For many years, their lives have been my companions — sometimes challenging me, sometimes piercing my heart, always drawing me closer to God. Writing about them has not simply been research; it has been friendship.

In these pages you will meet heroic men and women who loved Christ with extraordinary courage: Francis of Assisi, radiant in joyful poverty; Clare of Assisi, steadfast and brave; Padre Pio, tireless minister of mercy; John Vianney, aflame with zeal for souls; Margaret Mary Alacoque, apostle of the Sacred Heart; Maria Goretti, witness of forgiveness; Bernadette Soubirous, childlike in faith; and many more. Each has left a trace of grace upon the Church — and upon my own soul.

Above all, I long to see Our Blessed Mother, Queen of Saints, and to thank her for her tender care throughout my life. I look forward to greeting my Guardian Angel, faithful at my side throughout my life and helping me to stand among all the saints in eternal praise of the Blessed Trinity.

These reflections were first preached from the pulpit and have grown quietly alongside my priesthood. If this book helps even one reader to know the saints better, to love them more deeply, and to desire Heaven more earnestly, then it will have fulfilled its purpose.

For we are all journeying toward the same home.
