Letter to High School, College, and Grad School Graduates
If someone were to ask an older person who grew up during the Golden Age of Hollywood, what was the longest movie ever seen? The answer would likely be The Ten Commandments. Many would recall an intermission, as the movie is nearly four hours long. Every year, many theaters would show the film for a one-day-only event. Every year, ABC would air the film around Holy Week, which would also be around the time of Passover.
The Ten Commandments stars Charlton Heston, who portrays Moses. Moses is a figure from the bible who God would call to free his chosen people. The films give us lessons of trusting in God over what the world offers.
Faith Over Fear
The Israelites saw many miracles. From the release of their captivity to crossing the Red Sea, they all had faith, and it would, in turn, provide miracles.
Personal Calling
Moses didn't accept his calling when he confronted God at the burning bush. He used the excuse of his speech problem. Yet, God can work through some of our challenges and limitations.
Trust in God's Deliverance
Moses trusts God's promise to deliver the Hebrews from slavery, illustrating faith as believing in God’s goodness even while facing adversity.
Walking with God Equates True Liberty
The Ten Commandments are not supposed to be restrictions. Rather, these ten laws are the framework of how to live a free and meaningful life that is pleasing to God.
The beloved classic is the epitome of good storytelling and on the nose historic accuracy. It captured the story so well. It's a timeless classic that can be viewed again and again/
