St Gregory the Great
Let's get one thing perfectly clear. I am a sinner. I think too many times that I'm holier than thou. With all of my prayers I say and my random good deeds. I stroll along like I'm doing pretty good. Then, the Lord lets me see just exactly how weak I really am. When the anger or fear settles in, I'm like a person stranded on a desert Isle alone looking around for a rescue. That's when the "miracle rescue" occurs. But not until the realization of humility and recognition of that weakness is actually realized.
Stranded in that desert of sand, the Oasis arrives. Quenching my thirst, cooling my temple, like a wet cloth upon my brow. Once again, I realize, I am nothing. Nothing but a child who is in dire need of a gentle and compassionate Father and Mother to help me.
"Miracle rescues" usually arrive when Hope may seem lost. When your mind is in a state of panic or loss. Stories of ships lost at sea, or paths that your car has taken that were wrong, when the child you love so dearly is sick or even yourself being so sick that no medicine can cure you. The great Doctor, the all knowing Captain of the sea, the perfect Navigator takes the reins of our soul and shows us who is in control.
It makes me marvel of how many times I disappoint our Lord but yet He is always ready and willing to come and relieve me of my woes. Yes, miracles happen at every minute. You just have to be aware that they are not always radiated by spectacularism. They can be very gentle, giving us the feeling of Peace, then knowing that it is our Lord who is acting. They may be small to the eyes, but gigantic in the rescue.
Recognizing my smallness, I am able to recognize His greatness.
Keep me humble oh God. So that your miracle rescues don't pass me by and so that relying on you in all things, I surrender without a struggle.
