Hidden treasures
I was out there, toiling away. Plowing that hard dirt with my hand tiller with all my might and determination to start my garden. All of a sudden,my shoulders started kind of giving me a hint that later, I would be sorry if I didn't quit pretty soon. I stood there thinking about all of the farmers who plowed that unforgivable hard dirt without the use of modern-day tools. I always considered myself, as a great candidate for living in the Pioneer era. But the older I get, I think not so much.
Its really, really, really hard work. Yes, it might be easier with electric tools, but there's also so many factors that go into farming. Doing it by yourself and hitting away with a the hopes and dreams of a wonderful garden full of herbs and vegetables, keeps the dream alive. But like I said before, it's really hard work. I would never ever say I'm lazy. But after a few hours, the thought of just going to the store and buying what I need, sounds really good.
God bless the farmers. It is their livelihood, they're bread and butter, their purpose. They, of all people, depend on God to provide just the right amount of rain and sun to make those plants grow. Then, comes the worry about animals grazing on those beautiful beans or the birds making more than a snack of their corn.
Many perils, yet many reapings, come from being a farmer. I give them due respect now and always. Because really, without them, our world would be at a dire loss.
St Isidore, beloved Saint of farmers, watch over all farmers and their crops. May they reap the rewards of their hard labor and give glory to God. Celebrate St isador and all farmers, on May 15th.
