It all comes down to "Love"
Second day of our Novena. I'm learning about myself and my lukewarmness. I feel ashamed of myself for my inconsistence of commitment. One minute I'm all in and then the days work makes me feel resistance to concentration. There's a word called "lackadaisical". It sounds fun to say but it's not so fun to be characterized as. It means lazy. Carelessly lazy. That's how I feel sometimes. I get greedy with my time. Relaxing in thought to the deeper meaning of my prayers. I justify it by telling myself I worked for this moment and I just need a little time to unwind. Thank goodness Jesus didn't think that way on the way to Calvary. He was hungry. He was tired. He was suffering from gaping wounds that seemed unceasingly put on His body. And here I am, thinking that I've worked so hard for a moment of rest. I truly believe it's good to rest. But there's a limit. I must not let the minutes turn into hours. Wasted away on some show on TV that I thought would be worth watching. Only to realize it made me more tired. Then, oh yes, my evening prayers are still needing to be said. I pray with a wearied mind. Lukewarm intentions, with a straying of my thoughts. In my realization of my wandering mind, I thank God He's not lukewarm. He always gives me the assurance that He is not. He is steady in His attention for me. Making me cling to Him all the more. He's so patient with me. If someone acted like their mind was wandering or looking around at different things while I was talking to them, I think I'd really be hurt. I don't think I'd really want to stay and talk to them any longer. But God never acts bored with me. He's never bored with anyone that wants to talk to Him. I must be more alert and conscious of time well spent, especially in His presence. Today, I will pray not to be lukewarm in my affections toward Him. I must always be alert to the fact that He is always there, attentive to me. Watching me and listening to me.
Oh, Sacred Heart of Jesus, take away my lukewarm heart and replace it with a fervent, vibrant heart full of desire for loving you and serving you completely.
