Peter actually shows emotion

“When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these”? He said to him, “Yes Lord; you know that I love you”. He said to him, “Feed my lambs”. He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me”? He said to him "Feed my lambs", He said to him the third time, "Simon, Son of John, do you love me"? "Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me”? And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you”. Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after this, he said to him, “Follow me”. (John 15:15-19).
I want you to think about something. For context, Catholics consider St. Peter the first Pope, we don't usually appeal to this text (but, maybe we should, I do)! But, I'm not focusing on that.
I'm focusing on two things. “The first one is this Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me”?
Well, how exactly did John know that “Peter was grieved”. Probably because he showed it. How would he do that? I know this is ironic for an autistic guy to say, but, probably by reading his facial expressions or someone relaying the story to John using those facial expressions.
Notice something, something happened directly after that episode?
“(This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God).”
He was quite literally told that he was going to be executed (traditionally, Peter has been said to have been crucified upside-down, which actually fits with the text).
Now, does it say that Peter was unmanly for crying? No.
And what's interesting to me, is how, after this episode, the focus shifts to John (Jimmy Akin, love his show, but, he's wrong on this), focuses to John. (Peter is mentioned two more times because he's asking a question about John)
In none of this cases, did Jesus say “suck it up, it's unmanly to cry”. No, he saw Peter's affliction, and told him that he was going to die. Was Peter still upset after that? Probably. But, Peter wasn't rebuked by Jesus for crying, either.
Remember, crying is NOT unmanly.
