Have you ever been to a Christian concert?
The very first Commandment, "I am the Lord your God. You shall not have any other gods before me", sets the stage for the other nine that follow. We forget self and place God before everything. 10 rules. One God. With Adam and Eve, it was one rule, one God. But since sin and disobedience were brought into the picture of life, we have all had to suffer the consequences. Every bad deed has consequences. Every disobedience against God has its discipline.
Moses lived a long time after that disobedience was committed. God, in all of His knowledge, had already experienced the unfaithfulness of man and woman, and so set in motion this new plan. All leading up to Himself, in the form of a human named Jesus. Taking on the responsibility once again of trying to teach man and woman who is the boss. Giving chance after chance after chance with sending prophets and teachers to help us understand how powerful He is. We still wouldn't listen. He had to come Himself. But in our human hardness of Heart, before arriving, He knew we needed something visual, He gave Moses Ten Commandments to give to the people. We are the people.
The Ten Commandments did not read " 10 Options", although that's how we perceive it many times in our decisions to either follow them or break them. Many people test the fire. Only to find out that that was a big no no. Our circumstances are guided by obedience or disobedience to the Ten Commandments. We are not choosing God if we break even just one. We are not agreeing that He is the only God, but rather that we are gods. The Ten Commandments are not hard to follow. All it takes is self surrender, self-resignation, and Honor to the One who created us. We complicate them by putting ourselves above the Creator of all things. Some will argue to their blue in the face, but there is only one God and that is the First Person of the Trinity. Abba, Yahweh, Elohim, El Shaddai, Adonai, Counselor, Healer, Provider. Many names, but only one God.
Ten Commandments. One God. Let us ask the Second Person of the Trinity, Jesus Christ, to always unite our wills to these 10 rules which will lead us to Total Unity in and with Our Father and His most Precious Sacred Heart.
Oh Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place all our trust in you. Take care of everything.
