Sacred H.E.A.R.T. Meditation

Use this H.E.A.R.T. acronym as a meditation on the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is based on five tried and true pillars of Catholic Faith:  Humility, Forgiveness, Love, Eucharist and Mary

(H)umble of Heart

Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.”  This is a call to enter into his heart with humility for the sake of interior peace.

"Lord, Jesus meek and humble, take away my pride."

(E)ntrance for Sinners

Jesus' heart was opened like a door by the lance that pierced his side. Like the door on the side of Noah’s ark it is an entrance point for salvation from the tempest of the fallen world.

"Lord, within your wounds hide me, plunge me into the ocean of your mercy." 

(A)flame with Love for the Church

Jesus’ love is burning with passion for his bride. It is a furnace of charity, all consuming and spreading out to save souls and to set the earth on fire. 

"Lord, with the fire of your love, burn away in me all that hinders my soul from reaching you."

(R)evealed and Shared in the Eucharist

This consuming fire is not an abstract concept; it takes on real flesh and blood upon the altar. In documented Eucharistic miracles, Jesus literally lays bare His physical heart—revealing it as a living left ventricle pumping type AB blood. Jesus is the universal recipient who wants an exchange: He offers us his Sacred Heart as we lift up our hearts to him in true worship. 

"Lord Jesus, partake in my heart as I partake in yours."

(T)wo hearts of Jesus and Mary

Jesus’ physical heart was formed and fed by the beating heart of his mother. They beat in unison with a consistent rhythm of conformity: her will totally aligned to his. There is a complete spiritual union, love, and co-suffering between the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. By them we are sustained with divine and maternal love. 

"Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on me. Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for me."
