From here to Eternity
Holy Mary Mother of God; the very essence of God’s Caring Mercy for man!
We could look in the annals of history and never find anything that states what true mercy is until the call of this Virgin was completed and as Elizabeth exclaimed; “And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” (Lk 1: 43 - 45).
What a beautiful narrative in this gospel account that Luke brings out such exquisitiveness in the Infancy Narrative that leaves the other three hanging to just imagine what our total belief has as a beginning of God’s Plan to forgive his creatures. The sad truth from so many evangelical and protestant denominations is the absence of so little mention of Mary, the Blessed Mother of God, except that Jesus was born of a virgin and it stops there.
There can never be too many accolades expressed to the Mother of God from even those who do not really know her divine role in our salvation. Some may think that she was only a peg in the block of God’s plan for sinners and their need for forgiveness. But looking at the process of events that took place, without her words; “I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” (Lk 1: 38). We would not have seen and heard the very Incarnation of Christ to assume humanity and go to the Cross at Calvary which secured our redemption. Who among us would dare to believe that had she refused God might have chosen someone else? That answers with a bold acclamation of NO! Once God makes a decision to reach sinners there is no conceivable action that will cause him to change his plan. Before any human being was created God had already created his plan to redeem sinners and the virgin would be called forth as Isaiah wrote; “Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.” (Is 7: 14).
For those who may still follow the thoughts of disapproval towards evangelical philosophy, God does not need your unbelieving doubts about his presence and complete concern for his creatures. He created humanity, planned to forgive their every sin, and has prepared a home with him in eternal bliss, forever. Since there is not an end of his eternal existence there will also be no end of our souls with him. One more thought on eternal life; Eternity is not seen as a time entity; it just IS.
As the saints, angels, and God are forever, believe that the Blessed Mother and her Son Jesus Christ are eternal as well. The woman we admire for her answer the angel was waiting for, it is an answer that guaranteed our freedom from the reality of sin and hell by our own choice.
