15-Second Prayer Before Work
I was driving home on a rainy, dark February night.
Two motorcyclists maneuvered around my car and one shouted at me, what sounded like, “Look behind you witch!”
Except, instead of “witch,” he said a word that started with the letter B.
Adrenaline going, I followed the motorcyclists.
At a traffic light, I got out of my car and shouted, “Did you call me a…?”
No response.
I proceeded to follow them past the edge of town, but I lost sight of them in the darkness headed toward the rural country.
I turned around and safely headed home. Bloodshed and jail averted.
End of story. Thanks be to God!
Outside the city limit, where I "lost" the motorcyclists, there were fewer lights and great pockets of darkness as the suburban streets turned into country roads.
I lost the motorcyclists because they sped off into the darkness.
How many times are we unknowingly protected from plunging foolishly into the darkness of physical or spiritual danger?
What a mercy that the Lord kept me toward the light of the town and did not allow me to follow the motorcyclists into the darkness...
When we cross the veil, might we recognize all of the times that the Divine protected us from grave danger?
