Zapping Our Little Schools of Horror
Even before the Bernie Sanders, AOCs, and Mamdani’s, Blue States of America were decaying, and more than a handful now appear like hideous corpses: hued Gray States. The fault falls mostly to the neo-Democrat Party—projected to turn communistic—that vigorously advanced the death culture in the name of liberty, marked by millions of abortions, disintegration of healthy family formation, civil laws that trampled natural law, incitement of class and race envy, and pervasive and chronic public disorder. Political operatives here and abroad used trickery, propaganda, deflection, bribery, extortion and libel to poke the malcontented and seed hatred, to amass power of the few over the many. Worst of all, obstinate baptized Catholics within their ranks cherry picked Bible verses and conflated them with virtue signaling under sanctimonious cover.
The road ahead is overshadowed by a lethal fog clouding the minds of millions of persons in our country, citizen and non citizen. A mobocracy has arisen that lacks wisdom and love fixated on this world and their position within it, but also confused due to abysmal education and social isolation for several years, Whether or not this plaque of dark victimhood prevails may well be the task of the Faithful to dispel and let in the Light. The alternative is chilling to consider: A mottled country with the majority of, if not all, states leadened in postmortem gray. If that does occur, a new meaning will be given to the “red” States, one of martyrdom.
Such evil has loomed in various times over man’s history. In Moses’s time sorcery was one definitive description for diabolical attacks that circumvented God’s authority and promoted sinful practices, often in the guise of good. St. Paul condemned such when he decried, “Who has bewitched you?” to the Galatians (3:1), and we must do the same. Rebellion against God and false worship of idols have mushroomed and intensified under the emerging power brokers, albeit with diabolical foreign assistance.
We are now witnessing the accelerated decline of major cities and then states into an ashen ruin despite the giddiness of recent election triumphs. Sorcerers are in our midst deluding millions with their sinister utopian props These are master illusionists who have successfully deflected attention away from grave immorality while falsely accusing, condemning, and killing God loving persons. No longer attacking under the shield of night, these bad actors mock in broad daylight, freely lying, libeling, and ignoring genuine injustices. Having manipulated a mal educated COVID generation to trust only their voice commands, stupefied millions follow the tracks of those charismatic chosen who promise equality on Earth.
Although significantly inflamed by persons proclaiming to be Muslim, Islam or Christian, those skewed identities are not, in and by themselves, entirely at fault for the openly brutal warfare against orthodox Jews and genuine Christians in American cities and states. If the devil knows the Bible, obviously he also knows the Quran. Moreover, numerous Popes, but most extensively Pope St. John Paul II, always accented common areas of mutual context in all three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In one address at the end of the month of Ramadan, April 3, 1991, he noted, “Injustice, oppression, aggression, greed, failure to forgive, desire for revenge, and unwillingness to enter into dialogue and negotiate: these are merely some of the factors which lead people to depart from the way in which God desires us to live on this planet.” He quoted one of his predecessors, Pope Gregory VII, who in 1076 wrote to the Muslim ruler of what is today Algeria, citing what is basically the Golden Rule and acknowledging that both religions believe in and confess one God, “admittedly, in a different way.”
Of course, Catholics know that the fringe community of any religion can do much harm, especially if acting in the absence of grace. Both candidates Graham Platner in Maine and James Talarico in Texas demonstrate this. Some in power or seeking such are more blinded and vicious than others when abusing religion interpreted according to materialistic objectives. Still, it falls to devout Catholics to model the best of what God wills.
Christians were called to be witnesses to Truth and Love, foremost. Threaded throughout Scripture and Tradition are these central themes that must be ever weighed against our political identities: Avoid alliance with the world; live as though already in the City of God; and evangelize the unbelievers—the ignorant, the doubtful, and even hardened sinners. We must lead by example of the Holy Family, the saints and other holy souls and stand courageously but peacefully for what we know leads to eternal peace and joy.
First, we pray, attend daily Mass if possible, recite the Holy Rosary devotedly, intercede for sinners by the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Frequent the Sacraments including Confession and the Eucharist, the former to remove the beam from our eye. In the words Pope Leo on the Eucharist: “(a) powerful antidote to division…it is by receiving Him in His Word and in the Eucharist that we become what we receive.” The Pope notes that the Eucharist is “the Sacrament of the Kingdom that is to come and the Bread for the journey that leads the faithful toward their heavenly homeland.”
I would add parenthetically, that daily Mass attendees are likely to worship with persons of diverse cultures, backgrounds and economic status but of the same spiritual motivation. To daily experience that communion with others impresses more significantly than any catechism citation, homily or speech.
Only after attending to our souls in the sight of God can we then confidently attend to our civic duty, calmly but firmly exposing and rejecting sin. Support solidly uncompromised Christian candidates. (Author’s note: I am carefully examining the American Solidarity Party that appears more like the old Democrat Party and is prominently prolife.) Communicate with representatives and make certain they know we are unapologetically Catholic and expect a nation striving to be pleasing and grateful to God. We should research and support wholly (and holy) Catholic periodicals, podcasts, websites, and publishers, employing and sharing their insights. If possible, we can contribute to orthodox Catholic institutions, especially in the spirit of solidarity and subsidiarity.
Though we must accept that we are more likely to be sacrificial lambs than heralded lions, perseverance quells discouragement. Human history is replete with falls, renewed faith, forgiveness, and resurgence of Catholic fervor. We need only focus on resuscitating the Gray States and leaving the rest to God who is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (possessing all knowledge) and omnipresent (transcending space and time). Knowing and embracing authentic Catholicism puts all of this in proper perspective. Moreover, by staying close to Jesus Christ and under the blue mantle of Mother Mary, we can be certain that the Perfect State of Heaven awaits for all eternity.
