Breakfast With Jesus

One of the biblical verses from the Easter readings relates the story of the disciples eating breakfast with Jesus. Jesus met them on the shore after they had been fishing. They recognized Him on the shore and as He was serving them. I thought to myself that it was a wonderful expression of God's love for them to be nourished physically and spiritually by the hand of God.
Many seniors (myself included) live alone. The children have left the nest to find their niche in the world. The spouse has died, or the person who cared for the entire immediate family is left now to care for himself or herself. There should be no pity here. God is extremely pleased with the actions of those left behind. The caring shown to others in the family especially to elderly mothers and fathers has won for the caregiver a long life in the kingdom as is promised to those who keep the Fourth Commandment. “Honor thy father and thy mother so you may have a long life in the kingdom.” These are the words of the Jewish Testament.
We are the truly blessed ones. So instead of feeling sorry for ourselves by being left alone, we should try a more productive route. We should also try to have breakfast with Jesus and the team described in my last article, 'Infinite Love – Part 2'. This is a time for us to read Scripture verses, stories about Mary, the angels, and the saints. It is time to tune our inner self to hear the voice of God which will give us direction to the path we are to travel to find final unity with God and our loved ones.
During this time we may also have cherished memories of our loved ones and possibly hear their voices in the silence of that moment for direction in our lives. It is a time for us to see the Savior of the World give us his approval for our many sacrifices and acts of kindness. We should be able to bask in the glow of our Savior's peace. So if you are lonesome at breakfast or any other meal, try this approach to bring continued spiritual and physical fulfillment to your life. It works for me.
