Blessings Abound Like Berries
I have two dry erase boards mounted on walls in my home.
After writing on them, I see that my writing consistently slants downward from left to right.
Maybe I should put up lines to help me write straight?
Without rules we can end up in the the gutter, like a bowling ball without bumpers.
My slanted writing on the dry erase boards reminds me how easily one can slide downhill without God, without rules, without structure.
Many of us have heard some version of, “Children feel safer with rules.”
We are God’s children. We have the Ten Commandments to get us into Heaven. Canon law exists for the salvation of souls.
I once took a training class in order to work as a substitute teacher. In an exercise in the training class, we had to write sets of classroom rules.
We were not allowed to write rules with “Do not…”
The rules had to be worded instructionally, not prohibitively. E.g. “Follow instructions” or “Keep your hands to yourself.”
I hope the powers that be were not implying that God did not know what He was doing in the Book of Exodus...
Thankfully, Our Father loves us so much that He gave us the Ten Commandments.
Rules rule!
