Color-Coding the Bible: How I Started, and Why You Should, Too
Our habits are what shape the kind of people we are. Sometimes that can have good results, but that is not always the case. While some of the things people listen to, watch, and read on a regular basis can have a pleasant impact on them, the content others take in might send them into depression, anxiety, or anger. Furthermore, some content may not necessarily do that, but it could possibly help lead a person into sinful behavior and away from God.
Something nearly all of us have that supports this is our smartphones. They make it so much easier to access things that might seem harmless at first, but can slowly chip away at our faith in God, as well as other good things in our lives. For example, smartphones (and dumbphones with internet access) make it really easy to log into social media and spend a lot of time scrolling through it. While a person who does that might not have any negative intentions, it can become something that they put above all of the other things they need to do, like go to Mass, pray, spend time with their friends and family, and go to work.
But there is some good news here, and that is the fact that our smartphones are what we make of them. As far as spending too much time on them, we can try some tricks that can help us put a bit of distance between ourselves and our smartphones, like leaving them in a basket by the door when we get home, and simply turning off notifications. More good news is that even though smartphones can help us create negative habits, they can also assist us in creating good habits that can draw us closer to God. What’s even better is that there are many ways that people can make that happen.
Use Bible Verses
Bible verses are some of the most powerful pieces of literature. They can make people feel hope and love, and they can be a great way for one to pull themselves out of depression. Furthermore, one of the best things that they can do for a person is bring them closer to God.
Therefore, one great way for someone to make their smartphone a holy space is by putting a Bible verse on their lockscreen, their homescreen, or both. That way, every time they reach for their phone, they are reminded of the goodness of God.
Remove Apps That Do Not Align With Your Goals
A truly effective way for a person to make their life better and more fulfilling overall is to remove apps from their phones that no longer benefit them in any way, or worse. Additionally, doing this does not have to mean simply deleting apps that lead to sinful behavior. For some people, this may also entail removing ones that are taking up space on their phones that they wish to get back.
While this alone is pretty beneficial, something that makes this an even better way for one to make their phone into a holy device is the fact that removing other apps frees up more space for a person to download one of the many Catholic prayer apps as a replacement. Lots of those apps have tons of different Catholic prayers for one to enjoy and learn about, and some even provide Bible trivia. Also, they are just great apps to have in general.
Create Notes That Remind You Of Who And What You Want To Pray For
Many folks who have smartphones have apps that allow them to take notes, and it turns out that those apps are yet another way someone can use their phone to make them better Christians. Said apps can be used for things like writing down the names of people that we want to pray for, as well as specific prayer intentions. While some people pray immediately when they think of someone or something they wish to pray for, others may plan to do it later because life can be busy and chaotic sometimes, and that can result in them forgetting to do it. But using the apps that allow them to create notes for this purpose can be really helpful in that department.
Lots of people already know that smartphones have been linked to very negative things in the past, but that does not mean that they are actually bad objects to have. They can be extremely effective tools for people who are looking to find ways to become better Christians without abandoning a major part of modern technology.
